Virgin Islands National Park

Two-Thirds of St. John is national park land; the rest is small towns, shops, homes, and private land.  No matter which you stumble upon, you will encounter friendly people, magnificent views, and a warm, slow-paced ambience.  

A short walk from the ferry dock in Cruz Bay is the Visitor Center.  They are open daily from 8 a.m to 4:30 p.m.  This is a great place to begin your park explorations.  The center offers many books, maps, videos, and houses an exhibit.  Park Rangers will help you plan your hikes, historical tours, snorkeling, cultural craft demonstrations, or evening camping. Click here to find out more about individual areas of the Park.

Beach To Beach Swim

Swim to Cinnamon Bay, swim to Trunk Bay, or go all the way to Hawksnest Bay. On May 28th, 2006 Friends of Virgin Islands National Park will host the 3rd Annual Beach-to-Beach Power Swim on St. John in the U.S. Virgin Islands.
The race again this year consists of three courses: the short course from Maho Bay to Cinnamon Bay, about 1 mile; an intermediate course from Maho Bay to Trunk Bay, about 2-1/4 miles; and, the long course from Maho to Hawksnest, about 3-1/2 miles. You can compete in the long course as an individual or as part of a 3-person team. Swimmers assisted by snorkel and/or fins may also compete in an "assisted swimmer" category.
